Luis Rodriguez, who was known to generations of children as Sesame Street’s fix-it shop owner Emilio Delgado, died last week at the age of 81 after being diagnosed with a kind of blood cancer two years ago.
Beginning in 1971, he played Luis for 44 years.
His was the longest-running part for a Mexican American actor in a TV series, according to the Sesame Street Workshop.
Delgado was the coordinator of the Bilingual Talk Force at Sesame Workshop, where he assisted in the addition of bilingual content to the popular children’s show.
